Donna Jones

Donna joined AKOMA as a Soprano in September of 2014 and began working on the Scholarship Committee. In 2015, she assumed the offices of Treasurer, Scholarship Committee Chairperson and Financial Committee Chairperson.  She also serves as a member of the Website Committee and as one of the Music Librarians.  She has found AKOMA to be a twofold blessing; a place where not only her musical, but her administrative gifts are used extensively.   She views AKOMA’s sisterhood as an earthly manifestation of the heavenly refuge and fortress described in scripture; a place of safety and support from which she draws strength and energy.  Two of her favorite AKOMA Songs are: ‘Stand Still’ and ‘Oh Jesus’, because they remind her that every answer is in His presence.  One of her favorite scriptures is Psalms 121:7-8: God guards you from every evil, He guards your very life.  He guards you when you leave and when you return, He guards you now, He guards you always.  The Message Bible     This scripture has allowed her to be fearless in many situations where there was no apparent supports.  Hebrews 11:1 says “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen.  Donna attributes her freedom to minister in AKOMA in so many facets to the faith that one particular elder sister, Rita Mitchell, had in her abilities when she first joined the fellowship; to Sister Rita Donna says “thank you for believing in things unseen in me.”

Donna is passionate about ensuring that the next generation has an opportunity for personal advancement through education and good financial stewardship.  This desire fuels her work in AKOMA and as the Vice President of the Black Women’s Leadership Council (BWLC) Foundation, which also provides scholarships to African American Women pursuing college education.  She also serves on the Volunteer Advisory Council of the C.A.S.H: (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope) Coalition, a collaboration of the United Way and Empire Justice, which serves low income families by providing free tax preparation services.   And she is a Financial Coach in the C.A.S.H Coach program, which assists individuals with financial wellness and has served for the past five years as an Assistant Site Manager during Tax Season.  She supports the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society during their MS Bike and MS Walk / Run Events as a Lead Registration Volunteer.

Donna She is currently employed at HCL Technologies, contracted into Xerox Corporation as a Configuration Manager.  She holds both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University and is a Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.  Prior to joining HCL, she was a Project Associate for the Monroe County Office of Mental Health, where she

  1. Developed client information database management systems,
  2. Provided case management services for individuals with Co-occurring Mental Health and Drug Dependency Disorders and
  3. Created Motivational Interviewing curriculum and training.

In her sixteen year tenure with Xerox Corporation, from 1991 – 2005, she held the following positions: Quality Manager, Product Cost Engineer; responsible for new engineer training, Multinational Design Standards Manager, Integration Engineer, Global Purchasing Buyer, Design Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer and Manufacturing Supervisor.   She has also worked in a design engineering capacities for Eastman Kodak and Harry Diamond Laboratories in Washington, DC.

She has been active in the National Society of Black Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Society of Women Engineering (Local Chapter Treasurer 2014-2015) and was recognized in 2014 as a Woman of Outstanding Leadership by the International Women’s Leadership Association and in 2013 as a VIP Member of the National Association of Professional Women, in recognition of 22 years of engineering experience.   She has previously served on the Board of His Branches Health Services (Secretary 2015-2016).  She served as the Chief Operating Officer for Sister’s Circle Upstate New York in 2014.  She is a member of Faith Temple Church, where she has served as a Faith Temple Choir Member, Worship Team Member, Children’s Church Worship Leader, Dance Ministry Director, Salvation Team Member, Media Center Volunteer, Children’s Church Teacher and as Catechism Support Personnel.

Donna accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 12, which has proven to be the best decision of her life.   She is the proud mother of Victoria C. Jones, a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fields of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; Tre’ Jones, a Sophomore in the MCC / RIT two plus two program for Computer Science and a young budding musician and visual artist; and Jasmine A. Jones, a Senior in the Rush Henrietta School District and a young rising song writer.  Donna enjoys sewing, gardening and in addition to gospel, listening to the oldies, jazz and classical music.   Her favorite quote is “When the POWER of LOVE overcomes the LOVE of POWER, then there will be PEACE” by William Gladstone because love and peace are the concepts by which she endeavors to live her life.
